Take your pick: adrenaline packed or slow and contemplative?
The administrative seat of the MRC des Sources, the city of Asbestos thrived on what they referred to as their white gold. In fact, for nearly 120 years, chrysotile asbestos mine extractions shaped the town and marked it with one of the biggest open-sky mines in the world. Today an observatory allows visitors to contemplate the mine as they listen to the wind blowing up from the depths of this giant funnel, telling the story of this mining region.
If you’re planning on coming to Asbestos in August, make sure not to miss the Festival des gourmands’ epicurean event or the Grande foire minéralogique, mineralogical fair.
